Man United transfer plan doomed to fail as valuation set for Andre Onana deal

Manchester United have shown their cards when it comes to a sale of Andre Onana this summer.

The out-of-favour goalkeeper has spent the season out on loan at Trabzonspor, after the Red Devils opted to replace him with Senne Lammens last summer following some disastrous errors in 2024-25.

The 29-year-old left Old Trafford on a straight loan deal, meaning that there is currently no option in place to turn his stay in Turkey into a permanent one, and as a result, his return is edging ever closer.

Man United’s transfer plans for the upcoming summer window are already beginning to take shape, but they are set to require a drastic rethink over Onana after an alarming reveal from Turkey.

Andre Onana price tag set ridiculously high

Onana has been heavily criticised for the lack of consistency that he has shown since he joined United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, and Lammens has provided a much safer pair of hands this term.

Michael Carrick’s side have progressed significantly of late with a reliable goalkeeper between the posts, and it has quickly become clear that their previous incumbent has no future at the club.

However, that has not been reflected by their valuation for the Cameroon international ahead of the summer window, as it looks set to be fixed at a ridiculously high amount.

According to Turkish outlet Gunebakis, the Premier League giants are demanding a fee in the region of £39-43million for the gloveman’s services this summer.

It is understood that Onana’s personal desire is to join another English club, and failing that, a top club elsewhere in Europe, but there is surely no side that would consider paying around £40m for him.

His reputation took a battering during his stint as United’s number one, and as a result, there is surely no chance of a sale being agreed for such an astronomically high price.

Onana valuation to halt Man United transfer plan

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that United are pushing to add another goalkeeper to their ranks this summer, as they are ready to sanction two sales from within their current group.

Onana and Altay Bayindir are both set to be on the chopping block, with the latter currently being strongly pursued by Besiktas.

However, United will only be able to get that duo off their books if they are realistic in terms of their demands and any potential negotiations later down the line.

It looks likely that those two sales will be necessary if they are to fund a further addition, and with that in mind, the valuation of Onana looks set to have doomed that transfer plan before it has even truly begun.

If no clubs come forward to take the veteran at that price, then it could easily leave him marooned at Old Trafford, with the club forced to continue with him as their back-up.
