Exclusive: Alex McLeish dazzled by one Spurs signing – ‘Everything you want from a new player’
Alex McLeish has been blown away by the impact made by Tottenham new boy Sergio Reguilon.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Scotland, Rangers and Aston Villa manager picked out the left-back as a top talent.
He has left Spurs’ coaches open mouthed at his brilliance behind the scenes and provided stiff competition for Ben Davies at left-back.
Asked about the difference between Davies and Reguilon, McLeish told Football Insider: “There’s probably a few years between them in terms of legs, I think, and speed.
“Reguilon has hit the ground running, he’s come straight to Spurs, right in the team and he’s playing to the level you would expect a player from Madrid coming in (would).
“When you see the attacking prowess that he has, his recovery speed etcetera, that is everything that you want from a new player coming into your team.
“It’s so pleasing for the manager when that happens, when you’ve bought a new player and he’s fitted in straight away and you go: ‘Awh, we’ve got a good one there.'”
Reguilon made his seventh appearance for Spurs in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Brighton in a clear sign he has usurped Davies as first choice at left-back.
The Spain international demonstrated his huge threat going forward by providing his third assist for his new club as he set up the winner for Bale with a pinpoint cross.
In other news, a “significant” Tottenham bid for proven Premier League star can be revealed as a lucrative contract offer is on the table.
