Micky van de Ven ‘needs to be sold’ as Tottenham explode after Atletico Madrid thrashing

Tottenham Hotspur supporters are growing tired of Micky van de Ven and are ready to sell the defender once the summer transfer window opens.

The 24-year-old defender had been a favourite figure under Ange Postecoglou, but since the Australian’s sacking, it has been all downhill for him in North London.

Losing 5-2 to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, 10 March marked a new low for Igor Tudor and his team, and with Premier League relegation on the line, things are not much better back in England either.

Tottenham are likely to have transfer plans in place, regardless of league status next season, and some of their ideas could involve funding an entirely new back line.

Tottenham fans destroy Micky van de Ven after Atletico Madrid scenes

While the main talk was around Antonin Kinsky, who was replaced after just 17 minutes, supporters were truly critical of Van de Ven’s performance, lashing out at his mistakes and lack of fight in Spain.

One supporter accused him and Cristian Romero of “trying to make sure they’re getting sold” at a reduced asking price, with many fans now coming to terms with playing Championship football next season.

The Dutchman has already been heavily linked with an exit, with Liverpool reportedly circling for his signature, but another supporter believes that he “wouldn’t be out of place in the Championship”.

Which clubs are interested in signing the Tottenham defender?

Football Insider understands that Liverpool would have a £70million bid accepted for Van de Ven, though the defender’s price tag is bound to come down after his performances in recent weeks.

It is also understood that the centre-back is unhappy with his situation in North London, delaying talks over a new contract, which throws more doubt over his future at the club.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been linked with a move for the out-of-form Premier League star, while Man United have been named in the race for his signature ahead of the summer.

Whatever happens to Spurs this season, a move away from North London seems inevitable for Van de Ven, and it could be extremely difficult to replace someone of his calibre, despite his recent mistakes.
