Revealed: Why Nottingham Forest senior figures have quit
Nottingham Forest chiefs have stepped down to ensure the club adheres to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid the possibility that both Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Evangelos Marinakis owns both Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest, who have temporarily removed Mighael Dugher, Simon Forster and Jonathan Owen from their board to ensure they would meet multi-club rules.
Marinakis, who took a step back from day-to-day control of the Premier League club in April 2025, has ambitions for Nottingham Forest to compete in the Champions League, and they could achieve that if they win the Europa League this season.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes there is nothing more happening at Nottingham Forest than meeting UEFA rules.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the club needs to focus on remaining in the Premier League over any European aspirations.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think that’s what it is, trying to tie any connections with Olympiakos and shared interests. I think they want to be clean on that.
“Let’s not forget that, you know, 1st of March was the date that UEFA wanted to see movements in place. So I think anything around that date is all going to be tied to that. I don’t see anything more to it than that right now.
“Yeah, they’re doing ok in Europe, but we all know the big prize is the Premiership, and they’ve got to stay in there, and we’ve got to see. I don’t think there’s anything more than just bookkeeping and getting it right for UEFA, and in terms of multi-club ownership situations.”

Nottingham Forest facing key departures
Sources have told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest face an exodus of players no matter if they remain in the Premier League.
Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo and Elliot Anderson are a trio of stars expected to leave the City Ground in the summer.
Offers are expected to come in for all three players, and Nottingham Forest could be forced to accept any high bids, especially if they are relegated to the Championship.
