Tottenham Hotspur are facing an “uphill battle” to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Lilywhites are among a whole host of major European clubs who are chasing the 19-year-old ahead of next season, but it is understood that their likely inability to offer Champions League football will put paid to any genuine hopes of a deal.

Igor Tudor’s side are currently facing a relegation battle in the Premier League, and sources say that there is far too much uncertainty surrounding the club for Diomande to even consider joining them.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are all keen on the starlet, and it is becoming increasingly evident that Tottenham’s transfer push will not be able to compete alongside that trio.

Tottenham stranded over Yan Diomande asking price

Tottenham’s dire season on the pitch is causing plenty of issues for them behind the scenes at the moment.

Several of the club’s major sponsors are contemplating the idea of not extending their contracts with the North London outfit, which looks set to significantly limit the funds that are available to them for next term.

Football Insider revealed in February that Leipzig want £80million for Diomande in order to sanction the sale of their star man ahead of next season, and Spurs are set to be left stranded well below that price tag.

The Lilywhites are highly unlikely to be able to spend as much as £80m on a single player, regardless of how strongly they rate the Ivory Coast international.

The valuation that has been placed upon him by the Bundesliga side is set to provide a big obstacle for any club to strike a deal for Diomande this summer, but it is almost certain that Spurs will fall out of the race.

Spurs’ financial situation could get even worse

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider earlier this week that Spurs would instantly lose £75m in broadcast revenue if they suffered relegation from the Premier League.

The football finance expert outlined that relegation to the Championship would be “disastrous” for the club on every level, due to the decrease in broadcast revenue being merely the tip of the iceberg.

Borson suggested that it would result in the club relying far more heavily on their matchday revenue, although he also stressed that this would hinge on the fans’ desire to continue to turn up and back their team.

Tottenham are now just four points clear of the relegation zone with 10 games of the season left to go, and as a result they could yet fall even further away from being able to spend £80m on a player.
