Stefan Borson: Tottenham could lose £200m after Premier League relegation, this is why
Tottenham could lose up to £200million in revenue if they are relegated from the Premier League this season.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider sponsors are already concerned about the prospect of Spurs dropping out of the top flight.
Tottenham lost 2-1 against Fulham on Sunday (1 March), extending their winless run in the Premier League to 10 matches.
The north London giants currently sit 16th in the top-flight table, four points above third-bottom West Ham after 28 matches.
Relegation to the Championship would lead to significant financial implications for Tottenham, with major questions around how they would sell out their 62,850-capacity stadium in the second tier.

VISIT THE FINANCE HUBHow relegation will impact Tottenham commercially
Igor Tudor is already facing sack pressure after suffering defeats in his first two games in charge of Tottenham.
The Croatian boss has been drafted in as Thomas Frank’s replacement until the end of the season as he looks to keep Spurs in the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson discussed the impact on Tottenham if they are relegation this season.
“I think from a commercial perspective, there are two parts to it,” said Borson.
“One thing is true that the stadium has allowed them to generate commercial revenue from non-footballing events, and that obviously stays the same. There’s no impact there, whether they’re in the Premier League or not.

“Then the other part of it is what happens with the sponsors. We already know from a number of press articles that some of the sponsors are twitchy about relegation, either have relegation clauses, or intend to cancel completely, so of course you’ll have some impact commercially. Let’s say it’s £50m at least.”
Why European football is key for Tottenham financially
Borson revealed the expected lack of European football will also have a big impact on Tottenham’s financial situation.
Spurs are into the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face Atletico Madrid over two legs this month.

“They’re going to lose Uefa money because it’s now clear that unless Tottenham can win the Champions League this season, they will not have European football next season,” said Borson.
“I would think you’re looking at a £150m, £175m, maybe a £200m of a loss in revenue if they were relegated.”
Tottenham’s next fixture sees them take on Crystal Palace on Thursday (5 March), where they will be hoping to ease their relegation fears.
