Steven Gerrard’s odds of shock return revealed after confirmed manager sack news
Steven Gerrard could be set to return for a return to management after Huddersfield Town sacked Lee Grant.
After leaving Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq last year, Gerrard is yet to return to management despite several links.
The 45-year-old has been touted for numerous roles throughout Europe, but he is clearly waiting for the right opportunity.
Liverpool considered appointing Gerrard as an interim manager when Arne Slot was on the brink of the sack, but the Dutchman has since recovered.
Man United appointed Michael Carrick in a similar situation following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, and the former midfielder got off to a perfect start in the Manchester derby on Saturday.
Huddersfield Town contenders revealed
Grant spent the final years of his playing career at Man United, spending four years there as a goalkeeper and making two appearances.
Upon his retirement, he went to Ipswich Town to become a first-team coach, before he was appointed in charge of Huddersfield at the end of last season.
The Terriers have endured an up-and-down season under the guidance of Grant, currently sitting sixth but perilously close to the teams below them.
| Lee Grant | Huddersfield Town |
| Wins | 17 |
| Draws | 6 |
| Losses | 13 |
| Scored | 73 |
| Conceded | 56 |
And recent form has been poor. Huddersfield have not won any of their previous four League One fixtures, despite a win over Rotherham in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday.
Grant had his team scoring more than anyone else in League One, but only five of 24 teams have conceded as many.
On Saturday, following a 3-1 loss to Burton Albion, Huddersfield announced that the 42-year-old had been dismissed with immediate effect.
Sporting director Chris Markham will lead the recruitment process to appoint a successor, with the main contenders already emerging.

Gerrard has been handed 12/1 odds by one major bookmaker, along with Tony Mowbray, Leighton Baines and Russell Martin, while Liam Manning leads the race at 2/5.
Liam Manning appointment would surprise
Interest in Manning likely stems from his successful stint in League One with Oxford United, in which he led the club to second in the table before he left.
But the Englishman’s most recent managerial venture should be considered as well. He was appointed by Norwich City in June, but would last just six months.
Following his final game, the Canaries had failed to win in any of their previous 11 Championship fixtures and were 23rd.
Philippe Clement has since replaced Manning and guided Norwich to within a point of escaping the relegation zone.
