Trey Nyoni sends message as Liverpool exit confirmed, here’s how deal is structured

Trey Nyoni has sent a heartfelt goodbye message after Liverpool confirmed the sale of promising young talent Trent Kone-Doherty on Friday.

The 19-year-old winger has moved to join Norwegian side Molde on a permanent deal, and leaves having made just two senior appearances for his boyhood club.

Kone-Doherty has been part of the Reds’ U21 side so far this season, and notched six assists from 14 appearances in Premier League 2, while also featuring against senior opposition in the Vertu Trophy.

Nyoni has featured slightly more regularly for the first team this term, but once again, opportunities are proving to be few and far between for youngsters under Arne Slot.

Liverpool insert clauses into Trent Kone-Doherty deal

Kone-Doherty had been tipped to have a big future ahead of him at Anfield, but he has already decided that his development would be better served elsewhere at the moment.

The starlet is already a regular member of Ireland’s U21 squad, and he has now taken the brave decision to step away from the place where his career began, in order to pursue a career abroad.

Molde have secured the signing of the youngster for a fee of around £657,000 (€750,000), but according to journalist Paul Joyce via his X account, Liverpool hold both a sell-on clause and a buy-back clause as part of the agreement.

Kone-Doherty took to Instagram to share a heartfelt goodbye message as his transfer was confirmed, as he wrote: “I am truly so excited to open this new chapter in my career at Molde, time to work even harder!

“I’d like to thank everyone at Liverpool for the last three and a half years for helping me develop into the player I am today.”

Nyoni reacted to the deal by commenting with a crying emoji and a love heart emoji.

Messages pour in for Kone-Doherty

Nyoni was not the only Liverpool youngster to comment in reply to Kone-Doherty’s post, as several academy starlet are clearly said to see their teammate leave.

Jayden Danns commented under the winger’s post with “smash it brother,” while Lewis Koumas, who is currently on loan at Hull City, added: “So proud, will miss you brother.”

There were also replies from James McConnell and former Liverpool academy player Bobby Clark, who is now in the Championship with Derby County.

Kone-Doherty even received messages from senior Ireland internationals Shane Duffy and James McClean, who commented “good luck buddy” and “all the best young man” under his post.

The wideman may have hardly had a taste of senior football during his time at Anfield, but it is clear to see that he made a big impression on those who shared a dressing room with him in the academy.
