Whelan makes Moyes-Everton ‘love affair’ claim after Source shares key manager update

Noel Whelan claims David Moyes still has a “love affair” with Everton as Bill Kenwright eyes him to replace Carlo Ancelotti.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest in the Toffees’ hunt for a new boss.

Football Insider revealed on June 2 via an Everton source that chairman Kenwright was championing the Scot as a successor to Ancelotti.

This site then learned on June 5 that Moyes held talks with the West Ham hierarchy last week and he is ready to commit to a new long-term contract.

His original Hammers deal is due to expire this summer.

Ancelotti sensationally quit Everton last week and rejoined his former employers Real Madrid.

Whelan claims Moyes still has work to do at West Ham but hinted the love affair between him and Kenwright is still alive.

“They have a love affair,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“That friendship is still burning deep inside. It would be difficult for Moyes to turn his back on West Ham.

“West Ham have money to spend, I don’t think Moyes’ job is done there. He will want that crack at Europe.

“They finished higher than Everton last season. As much as it’s an exciting time for Everton with the new stadium and money they will spend this season, I really don’t think Moyes will take that option.

“West Ham is an exciting proposition for Moyes and he doesn’t want to miss out on Europe after working so hard for it.”

Moyes was Everton boss between 2002 and 2013.

He left Goodison Park for an ill-fated spell as Manchester United boss.

In other news, Everton fans will be “gutted” as a Premier League club plot raid to sign an “excellent” fans favourite.
