‘Big, big trouble’: Igor Tudor comments show why Tottenham will be relegated

Igor Tudor’s recent comments about his Tottenham team have led to a growing expectation that they will be relegated from the Premier League this season.

Following their 2-1 defeat against Fulham, Spurs are now winless in their last ten league games and remain just four points above the relegation zone.

They were afforded some respite after both West Ham and Nottingham Forest also lost at the weekend, but both have shown more positive signs in recent weeks.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tudor‘s attitude and press conference criticisms have only added to the uncertainty around their Premier League place.

This comes after his latest outburst revealed: “We lack the quality to score the goal. We are lacking in the middle to run, and we are lacking… to not concede the goal.”

Igor Tudor casts doubt of Tottenham survival hopes

Brown told Football Insider on 23 February that Tottenham are at serious risk of relegation, with Tudor unlikely to be the man to guide them to safety.

Instead, their potential survival could be dictated by the results of those below them, as the manager’s comments have led to growing concerns.

The manager’s comments are hardly a vote of confidence,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They can’t attack, their midfield isn’t working hard enough, and they can’t defend? So in other words, they’re in big, big trouble.

“I thought it was strange of him to come out and say that because it’s not going to help anyone, it just suggests to me that he’s already resigned to defeat.

“Form what I’ve seen of Tottenham lately, they don’t look like a group of players who will fight to turn around their fortunes, it’s like they don’t realise the situation.

“I think if they stay up at this stage it’ll be because West Ham and Forest couldn’t do enough to get ahead of them, rather than dragging themselves out of it.

“If the manager keeps talking the way he has been, I would be seriously worried about Tottenham.”

This is how much money Spurs would lose with relegation

Spurs have played in the top flight since 1978 after securing promotion at the first attempt following their relegation the previous year.

Relegation would be hugely damaging for Tottenham both on and off the pitch, with key players likely to leave while their finances would be hit massively.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that relegation would be “disastrous” for Spurs given the financial implications.

Tottenham would instantly lose around £75million in broadcast revenue if they were to drop into the Championship in what would be an immediate blow.

Meanwhile, their matchday revenue would also likely take a big hit, while players sales may be necessary to raise funds and avoid further concerns.
