Borussia Dortmund green light Julian Ryerson sale as Newcastle race Man United for deal
Newcastle and Manchester United are both set to have the chance to sign Borussia Dortmund right-back Julian Ryerson this summer.
Dortmund could reportedly stand to lose up to £27million after they were prematurely knocked out of the Champions League by Atalanta last week, and they are set to make up for that loss by selling some of their key players.
The Bundesliga giants have now decided that Ryerson will be sold ahead of next season, provided that a club tables an offer that matches their asking price of £26m for the Norway international.
Newcastle view him as a target, while Manchester United and Barcelona are also showing an interest in the 28-year-old, who has been one of Dortmund’s top performers so far this term.

Niko Kovac’s Dortmund side are on course to finish second in the top flight once again, with Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich currently 11 points clear in the race for the league title.
The recent Champions League exit has left a somewhat sour taste at the Westfalenstadion in recent days, but that has done little to detract from Ryerson’s stunning performances.
The defender is into his third full season with Dortmund, after previously gaining Bundesliga experience with Union Berlin, and his career has hit new heights in 2026.
Ryerson has notched a stunning 11 assists from just 21 league appearances so far this term, a tally which stands him above ex-Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, and below only Michael Olise in terms of the Bundesliga’s top creators.

His performances have unsurprisingly attracted plenty of interest from elsewhere ahead of the summer, and according to Bild, Dortmund have effectively already given the green light for him to move on to a new challenge.
Ryerson could become Tino Livramento’s replacement at Newcastle
Football Insider revealed back in February that Manchester City are expected to move for Tino Livramento this summer, after tracking the Newcastle star for several months.
The 23-year-old has become Eddie Howe’s first-choice right-back at St James’ Park despite his injury woes, and his performances when he has been fit have caught the eye of Pep Guardiola.
Newcastle won’t want to lose Livramento without a fight, but given the fact that City can offer Champions League football and the capability to challenge on every front, they may not be able to stand in his way of a move.
With that in mind, they appear to be lining Ryerson up as a potential replacement for the England hopeful, who could finally be about to move on after speculation across several recent transfer windows.
Alongside the scrutiny on Livramento’s future, the Magpies are also in need of a long-term replacement for 35-year-old Kieran Trippier, who is surely now entering the final stages of his career.
