Carlo Ancelotti cited as pundit drops ‘big’ Newcastle United next manager claim

Frank McAvennie has insisted Newcastle United won’t replace Eddie Howe with a “big name”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Newcastle’s owners won’t want to “rock the boat” by replacing Howe any time soon.

The 45-year-old took over at St James’ Park in November 2021 and took the side from an 11th-place finish last season, to a fourth-placed finish in the 2022-23 season.

The Toon boss has helped to turn around the fortunes of current players as well as bringing in new players that have blended seamlessly with his current squad.

With his side’s top four finish they confirmed a place in the Champions League for next season which gives the owners further incentive to spend money to strengthen this summer.

When asked if Newcastle may look to replace Howe with a bigger name as they continue to progress, McAvennie told Football Insider:I do not think so.

I think everyone at Newcastle is enjoying Eddie Howe, everyone I speak to is enjoying Eddie Howe. Why would you rock that boat? I do not think they would want to do that.

He has got them into the Champions League, they wouldn’t want to sack him.

Putting in a big name does not mean that they are going to do it. Look at some of the names that have come into football in England and just couldn’t hack it.

The manager at Real Madrid, [Carlo] Ancelotti came over to Everton and could not do anything with them.

In other news, Newcastle United in very strong position to complete defender signing.
