Malick Thiaw in strong position to ‘negotiate’ deal as his Newcastle value to ‘go through the roof’

Newcastle United could earn more money from a sale of Malick Thiaw in the summer if he is selected for Germany’s World Cup squad.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Thiaw is already on the radar of multiple clubs.

Premier League and European clubs have expressed their interest in signing Thiaw, who only joined Newcastle last summer from AC Milan.

Thiaw could be one of a few key players to leave Newcastle in the summer, with Eddie Howe’s side set for only a mid-table Premier League finish after Champions League qualification last campaign.

Malick Thiaw commanding interest ahead of summer transfer window

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Thiaw’s agent could be ramping up interest in the defender.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Thiaw could be a “mainstay” of the German national team in the future.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “When you’re an agent of a young talent like that, you’re in the most enviable position because you can create all the headlines about all the interest from the other clubs and drive the negotiation up on a new contract.

“The oldest trick in the book that I’ve had to fight many times in football. And so, I think, we’re seeing that a bit right now, but there is genuine interest though in this kid. I think he’s got a great future.

“I think he could be a mainstay in the German team as well going forward. If he was to make the World Cup as well and perform well, again, the value would just go through the roof. So we’ll have to sit and watch where that one goes, but certainly he’s on the radar of a lot of people.”

Fabian Schar contract talks revealed

Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle want to tie down Fabian Schar to a new contract at St James’ Park to avoid the centre-back being a free agent in the summer.

The 34-year-old could be of interest to many clubs if he was to leave Newcastle, but Howe does not want to allow him to depart.

Schar has made 21 appearances for the Toon this season, but has been out of action since early January due to injury.
