Medical underway: Middlesbrough agree new signing after bid accepted – Sources
Darnell Fisher is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough ahead of his move from Preston North End, Football Insider understand.
As revealed by this site on Thursday, the Lilywhites have accepted a bid of around £300,000 for the 26-year-old as he heads into the final six months of his contract at Deepdale.
A source at the Riverside has told Football Insider Fisher started undergoing the necessary medical tests this morning (Friday, 29 January) and a deal is expected to be announced shortly.
Fisher has been a mainstay for Preston this season but, according to reports, has not been offered a new deal to stay past the end of the campaign.
This comes despite Football Insider revealing earlier in January Ben Davies, Daniel Johnson and Ben Pearson all had club-record offers tabled to tie them down.
The latter of the trio has since joined Bournemouth, while Davies is understood to be closing in on pre-contract agreement to join Scottish giants Celtic.
Fisher joined Preston from Rotherham United back in 2017 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances across all competitions for the Lilywhites.
Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock is keen to add to his ranks before Monday’s transfer deadline after watching his side suffer a 3-0 defeat against Rotherham in midweek.
Fisher helped Preston keep a clean sheet when Boro visited Deepdale back in December as the home side ran out 3-0 winners.
The north east currently sit seventh in the Championship table, three points off the play-off places and having played a game more than Bournemouth in sixth.
In other news, Preston have opened talks to sign an Everton starlet amid competition from fellow Championship club Blackburn Rovers.
