Mills: Galan could be ‘really good signing’ for Leeds after release clause reveal
Javi Galan could be a “really good signing” for Leeds United, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender insisted Galan’s dribbling ability is exactly what Marcelo Bielsa is looking for.
Football Insider learned on June 2 that Leeds have registered their interest in the left-back as his Huesca release clause dropped to just £3.5million.
In the recently-completed La Liga season, only Lionel Messi (159) completed more successful dribbles than Gala (121), according to WhoScored.
Leeds are looking for alternatives to Stade Brest defender Romain Perraud who they made their top left-back target on May 24.
Football Insider revealed at the beginning of June they were put off Perraud by Brest’s £15-18million asking price.
Asked for his assessment of Galan’s suitability, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It’s not necessarily that dribbling ability, it’s ball retention that people are looking for.
“Are you giving it away? It’s ok to give it away when you’re trying things but what you don’t want to be doing is giving it away unnecessarily. That’s when it can become a problem.
“You look at it and think ‘This guy keeps the ball well, even when he’s dribbling.’ That only bodes well with what Bielsa does. That could be a top signing.”
Football Insider revealed on June 4 that Leeds are pulling out all the stops in an attempt to tie Ezgjan Alioski to a new contract.
The North Macedonia international, 29, spent the majority of the season as Bielsa’s first-choice left-back.
In other news, Leeds United have been offered an Arsenal rising star and £20million will seal the deal.
