Newcastle star Lewis Hall has England fate decided as Thomas Tuchel shows his hand

Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall is set to be called up to England’s squad for the upcoming March internationals.

A series of injuries have prevented the left-back from featuring for his country’s senior group so far this term, with his only international appearances in 2025-26 coming for the U21 side back in November.

However, he has continued to impress with some consistent displays at St James’ Park, and his form is now set to receive recognition as part of the final squad before this summer’s World Cup in North America.

Hall played 90 minutes in Newcastle’s draw with Barcelona on Tuesday night, and he could now be about to take on a similarly important role for his country in the coming months.

Lewis Hall to beat Luke Shaw to crucial England call-up

Hall’s development on Tyneside has seen him fall even further onto the radar of the England setup, who are now preparing for a huge tournament just months down the line.

The 21-year-old made his senior debut for the Three Lions in November 2024, but has since found opportunities hard to come by, despite the team’s issues on the left side of the defence.

The likes of Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly and Newcastle teammate Tino Livramento have both had opportunities in the left-back role of late, while veteran Luke Shaw has become a staple of the national team.

However, that appears set to change for Tuchel’s imminent squad announcement, with Hall set to be called up, according to the Daily Mail.

The German boss was present for the Magpies’ recent defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup, and is looking favourably upon Hall as he begins to show his cards for his next squad.

On the other hand, Shaw is understood to be less likely to feature as part of the squad, which will be a crucial selection given its proximity to the World Cup this summer.

Newcastle to address Hall concerns this summer

Football Insider revealed back in February that Newcastle will prioritise adding a new left-back to their group ahead of next season, amid concerns regarding a lack of cover for Hall.

The youngster has missed 19 games due to injury since his arrival from Chelsea in 2024, and the Magpies are not blessed with a wealth of alternative options at the moment.

Dan Burn is capable of playing on the left, but is much preferred in a central defensive role by Howe, while Livramento is better suited to the right-back role.

As a result, Newcastle are ready to address this summer, as they go in search of a new full-back who can provide quality and increase competition for Hall on the left.

Nevertheless, his achievements are set to be recognised on the international stage once again, and it could lead to him earning a spot on the plane to North America.
