Newcastle’s chances of signing Jadon Sancho revealed as Aston Villa transfer battle could be on

Newcastle United may have a move for Jadon Sancho on their radar as the summer transfer window begins to hone into view.

The Aston Villa loanee is set to leave his parent club Manchester United as a free agent at the end of the season, and there has been interest in his services from plenty of clubs in recent weeks.

It has already become clear that Sancho has no future at Old Trafford, and he has made just one appearance for the Red Devils in the last two full seasons.

Newcastle’s transfer plans are likely to face tighter constraints than usual with their chances of securing European football for next term unlikely, and they may be about to look towards the free agent market.

Newcastle among best-placed Premier League teams to sign Jadon Sancho

Sancho built a big reputation for himself in the early stages of his senior career, and as a result, he is still likely to have plenty of potential suitors this summer despite his struggles in recent years.

Aston Villa are growing increasingly keen to try and prolong his stay in the second city, and they are well-placed to win the race for his signature at the moment.

However, the same can be said of Newcastle, who are currently seen as the second most likely Premier League team to land the wideman, in the eyes of one of the UK’s leading bookmakers.

The Magpies are currently priced at odds of 8/1 to secure his services after they previously showed an interest in him last summer.

However, there are also several clubs abroad who are expected to be in strong contention for the 25-year-old, with the likes of AC Milan and former club Borussia Dortmund both seen as major contenders at the moment.

Nevertheless, it still looks likely that Newcastle will enter the battle for his signature, especially since he will be available without the need for a transfer fee.

Newcastle could target Sancho as Anthony Gordon’s replacement

Former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Liverpool are leading the race to sign Anthony Gordon this summer.

It looks increasingly likely that the England international will move away from St James’ Park ahead of next season, with Liverpool understood to have positioned themselves well ahead of Arsenal in the race.

Wyness believes that Gordon would be a good fit at Anfield, and while it would be a major loss from Newcastle’s perspective, they could line up a move for Sancho as his replacement.

It may not be the big-money statement signing that many would expect if Gordon did depart, but that may not necessarily be possible given the likely lack of European football.
