Pundit shares ‘ absolutely massive’ Alexander Isak verdict after Newcastle United injury update

Alexander Isak’s return to the Newcastle United first team is an “absolute massive bonus”.

That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s return.

Newcastle United have been without Alexander Isak for their last two Premier League games after he picked up a muscle injury while on international duty.

However, on Thursday (13 October) Craig Hope reported the attacker may be fit enough to make the bench when the Magpies face Man United on Sunday (16 October).

McLeish has suggested Isak could prove to be the difference at Old Trafford.

“He hit the ground running when he first came to the club,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“Unfortunately, as he did that, he got an injury and that’s been disappointing for the player and for Newcastle as well.

“They spent a lot of money on him but they have coped and results have been positive. To get him back is an absolute massive bonus for the rest of the squad and the club in general.

“He has his goals but it feels like we have barely seen him. It’s another option for Howe and it is one he has missed with the guy immediately getting injured.

“Him coming off the bench in a game like that [v Man United], that’s some motivation to get on the scoresheet, it could be the perfect return.”

Isak scored twice in three games for the Magpies before getting injured.

Newcastle have won their last two Premier League games.
