Sources: Newcastle ‘concerned’ about Alexander Isak repeat with their star player

Newcastle United will be doing everything they can to keep hold of Bruno Guimaraes this summer amid interest in his services from Man United.

Guimaraes is the Magpies’ captain and one of Eddie Howe’s most important players, but has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Man United are reportedly lining up a move to sign the Brazil midfielder ahead of next season, but Newcastle have no plans to let him leave anytime soon.

They want to tie him down to a new deal, because as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, they are fearful of another situation developing that is akin to Alexander Isak’s transfer saga last summer.

Newcastle will be busy in the transfer market ahead of next season amid a largely disappointing 2025-26 campaign so far, and losing Guimaraes is not on their agenda.

Newcastle do not want to lose Bruno Guimaraes at any cost

Guimaraes has made over 180 appearances for Newcastle since a 2022 move from Lyon, with nine goals and six assists in 35 games so far this term.

His contract on Tyneside does not expire until 2028, with Man United now circling as they aim to bolster their midfield this summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously, it’s a concern that if Newcastle don’t qualify for Europe, they could lose some of their top players.

“I’m sure they would loath to lose someone like Bruno. He’s such a key player for them, for me, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

“I’m sure Newcastle will be desperate to keep hold of Bruno. They don’t want another situation like they had last summer, with Alexander Isak sort of agitating for a move away to Liverpool.”

Newcastle also determined to keep Malick Thiaw amid Chelsea interest

Thiaw has also impressed for Newcastle this season, despite their inconsistencies as a team, with five goals in 42 appearances from centre-back so far.

The 24-year-old is expected to go to the World Cup with Germany this summer, and clubs in his home country have been linked with a move for his services as the Magpies falter.

Former Everton and Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness has exclusively told Football Insider that Chelsea are interested in Thiaw as they aim to bolster their centre-back depth in the summer.

Much like Guimaraes, though, Newcastle have no plans to let Thiaw leave following his impressive debut season at the club, so will demand a hefty fee to prise him from St James’ Park.
