Danny Rohl sack latest: Rangers manager in ‘big trouble’

Danny Rohl is under serious pressure at Rangers as they head towards what looks like being another season without a trophy at Ibrox.

The Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat against Celtic has ramped up pressure on the manager’s position, with large sections of the fans now unhappy.

Rangers are currently six points behind league leaders Hearts and must mount a strong title challenge, even if ultimately they miss out, to ease pressure on the boss.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that, while there are no immediate plans to sack Rohl, the end to the season will be key.

What has been a turbulent season at Ibrox could become even messier if Rangers opt to look for a new manager, although there are no plans for that as things stand.

Danny Rohl ‘in trouble’ at Rangers after Celtic defeat

Football Insider revealed on 8 March that Rangers are not currently considering sacking Rohl despite recent frustrations amongst the supporters.

However, the defeat to Celtic has ramped up the pressure on his position and he must prove he can be part of their plan for long-term success.

I wouldn’t expect them to sack him any time soon,” Brown told Football Insider.

“It’s normal to be under pressure at a club like Rangers if results aren’t going your way, I don’t think that’s a big surprise, and I expect them to stick with him.

“But as the Rangers manager, if they’re out of the cups and not leading the league, he’s in big trouble.

“You’re never going to get away from the fact that if you’re not winning games and not winning trophies, there are going to be questions asked about your position.

“It’s the same at Celtic, we would have been having the same conversations there if they’d have lost, it’s just the way it works up there.

“They’ve now got the added problem with Hearts up there, they’re disrupting things and making it difficult and it’s thrown a spanner in the works.

“Rangers need to keep winning games and they need to be within reach of the title, even if they miss out, because if they’re not even challenging then he’s got a big problem.”

Rangers make Youssef Chermiti transfer plan

Rohl is not the only major figure at Rangers facing criticism, with a number of their top players also being questioned for their inconsistent performances.

One of which is Youssef Chermiti, who has been at the centre of frustrations given his lack of consistency in front of goal, which has led to questions about his future.

Football Insider revealed on 8 March that Rangers are concerned about Chermiti and his performances, but believe he will be a success at Ibrox given time.

Chermiti was signed by former sporting director Kevin Thelwell for former manager Russell Martin, both of whom have been let go from their positions.

There is a feeling that a more solid environment, which would involved Rohl staying in his job, could allow them to get the best out of him in the future.
