Dominic Solanke has already given his answer to Newcastle move amid fresh Tottenham links

Newcastle United have identified Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke as a player who is capable of taking them to the next level this summer.

The Magpies have struggled with a lack of firepower in front of goal at times this season compared to the teams at the top end of the table, and as a result, a new frontman appears to be one of their key priorities for the upcoming window.

Solanke has recently returned to form after a serious injury saw him miss almost the entirety of the opening half of the season for Tottenham, who may now face a battle to keep hold of him this summer.

Newcastle’s summer transfer plans have already seen them earmark the 28-year-old as a strong option to pursue, and they may not need to do much persuading to get the player himself on side.

Dominic Solanke to jump at the chance to join Newcastle

Tottenham are hopeful of keeping Solanke for next season, even if they suffer relegation to the Championship, according to the Daily Mail.

However, if they were to fall into the second tier for 2026-27, then they would surely have limited power when it comes to securing the futures of some of their key players.

As a result, their current plight will give Eddie Howe and Co. genuine hope that a deal could be on the cards for them, and the manager’s relationship with Solanke will boost those hopes even further.

The pair worked together during their time at Bournemouth between 2018 and 2020, and given the way that Solanke has spoken about his former boss, he would surely jump at the chance to play under him again.

He told the Jersey Evening Post back in 2019 that Howe was a “really nice guy,” and that he was “excited” by the project that he was building at the time.

Howe is also clearly still a big fan of the frontman, given that he is pushing to have him as part of his group once again.

Which other strikers are the Magpies being linked with?

Football Insider recently revealed that Newcastle are unlikely to truly pursue a move for ex-Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez, despite the recent links between them and the Uruguayan.

Nick Woltemade’s recent struggles have left the Tynesiders in the market for new attacking options, and there has been no shortage of recent links.

Although a move for Nunez appears to be off the table at the moment, there have also been links with Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson, and now speculation surrounding Solanke.

With that in mind, it is clear that Howe is keen to make his next striker addition somebody who is proven at Premier League level, rather than taking another gamble on a player from abroad.

Tottenham’s current relegation fears mean that Newcastle are likely to be playing a waiting game where Solanke is concerned, but if the decision is left to the player himself, then they will surely fancy their chances of getting a deal done.
