Kevin Thelwell is ‘laughing’ as Rangers backed to make big profit on Youssef Chermiti
Rangers could sell Youssef Chermiti for three times more than what they paid to sign the striker from Everton last summer.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Chermiti’s double against Celtic in the Glasgow derby.
The 21-year-old netted a brace against rivals Celtic two weeks after scoring a hat-trick against league leaders Hearts at Ibrox.
Rangers have a transfer decision to make on Chermiti, who has largely failed to impress in front of goal since his £10million move to Glasgow.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Chermiti’s form for the remainder of the season will determine whether Rangers sell him in the summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the striker is a “gem that needs to be polished.”
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Chermiti is a talent and as I’ve said, what they need to do is he needs to have a strong end to the season.
“Then I think they could be selling him for triple what they paid for him. So that’s what they’ve got to look at. Now, do they decide to keep him? I’m not sure. We’ve got to wait and see.
“There’s a gem there that needs to be polished. Kevin Thelwell got a lot of stick for buying him. And now Kevin’s laughing at the moment saying, well, I told you so. And fair enough.
“The kid has shown that he can score some crackers. And as you say, if he can do it more consistently in the league, not just the big games, then they’ve got a real diamond on their hands.”

Rangers face transfer race for Kilmarnock star
Sources have told Football Insider that Rangers and Celtic are pursuing David Watson ahead of a potential summer swoop.
The Kilmarnock midfielder is set to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season, with English clubs also interested in signing the 21-year-old.
Watson was named PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, and has contributed three goals and two assists for Kilmarnock this campaign.
