Anthony Gordon has ‘expressed his desire’ to replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, three top contenders named
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe should be wary of losing Anthony Gordon to Liverpool amid Mo Salah’s expected departure from Anfield.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states Gordon has a “desire” to move to Liverpool.
Liverpool have held interest in Gordon previously, and Salah is expected to move to Saudi Arabia in January after his extraordinary comments aimed at the club and Slot.
Gordon has been criticised for his Newcastle performances this season, but the 24-year-old has been a key part of Howe’s side since his arrival from Everton in 2023.
Anthony Gordon move ‘wouldn’t surprise’ Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo and Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise are also on the shortlist to replace Salah.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes Semenyo and Gordon are the front-runners.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Semenyo’s definitely one of three that I think they’re going to be looking at. Now, one that people have forgotten is there was a lot of gossip about Anthony Gordon.
“And he’s one that I think could have had some inside track on that as well. Also, Olise is another one that I put into the top three there and potential replacements. I think Semenyo has got the talent and is there.
“But the Anthony Gordon one, there was no smoke without fire. And I think he would like to come back into Anfield at that stage, at least come back to Merseyside as an ex-blue.
“I don’t know how well he’d be welcomed. There aren’t many that go across the park, but I think Gordon’s expressed his desire to go there. And I think Semenyo is also a favourite, but it’s between those two, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gordon coming on the rails, coming from behind.”

Antoine Semenyo release clause makes January move viable
Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth contract, potentially making the 25-year-old the easiest target to acquire.
Rivals Man City and Arsenal are also among the clubs who could make a move for Semenyo in January, with the winger having registered nine goal contributions in 14 Premier League appearances this season.
Meanwhile, it would take a big money move for Liverpool to tempt Newcastle into selling Gordon in January, amid their lack of squad depth in attack.
