Blackpool’s Elliot Embleton agrees long-term Carlisle United move – sources

Blackpool midfielder Elliot Embleton has agreed a permanent move to Carlisle United, sources have told Football Insider.

The deal is set to be a long-term one and a full agreement is in place between the two clubs as the 25-year-old prepares to drop down to League Two.

The midfielder had fallen out of the Blackpool squad in recent weeks, with his most recent league appearance taking place at the end of November.

However, he has made 23 appearances throughout this season for the Seasiders and scored once while providing three assists in all competitions.

Embleton kickstarted his career coming through the youth academy at Sunderland and went on to play for the club 92 times.

The former England Under-20 international also has experience playing in League Two for Grimsby where he scored three goals and provided three assists in 27 games.

Carlisle United will welcome the boost of Elliot Embleton

The Cumbrians are currently in the League Two relegation zone and have struggled after dropping down from League One last season.

The club fired Paul Simpson earlier on in the campaign due to the poor results the team were delivering, but Carlisle are looking to do everything possible not to drop out of the Football League.

Carlisle have already signed former Derry City star Will Patching on a free transfer before the January transfer window opened, but Embleton will add further midfield options to Mike Williamson.

Embleton will be looking to make an immediate impact with the club currently sitting 23rd in the league table, just one point away from safety.

The Cumbrians will be back in action on Wednesday (1 January) when they travel to face Crewe Alexandre.
