Exclusive: Chelsea could land £20m+ windfall – official documents reveal
Chelsea will land just over £20million if they lift the Conference League trophy and win all their games in the competition this season, sources have told Football Insider.
The London giants initially looked set for a place in the Europa League after a strong end to last season saw them finish sixth in the Premier League.
But Manchester United’s unexpected FA Cup final victory over Manchester City saw them take the Europa League spot, with Chelsea demoted down into the Conference League.
Although there is more prize money available to clubs competing in European competitions this season following Uefa’s revamp, the Conference League is still worth considerably less than the riches on offer in the Champions League and Europa League.
Chelsea booked their place in the competition following an unconvincing 3-2 victory on aggregate over Swiss club Servette FC in the play-off round of qualifying last month.
Enzo Maresca’s side begin their group stage campaign on 3 October against Gent and will also play Panathinaikos, Noah, Heidenheim, Astana and Shamrock Rovers for a place in the knockout rounds.
Chelsea could trump West Ham with Conference League success
As per official Uefa documents released in March, a victory in the revamped 36-team league phase is worth £337,000, while finishing in the top eight spots will bank clubs a further £337,000.
Making it through to the final and winning the showdown in Wroclaw, Poland, next May could see teams land £15.18million in total prize money if they were to win all of their group stage matches.
Chelsea have already guaranteed themselves around £5.3million after qualifying for the competition as part of Uefa’s new value pillar payment system, which rewards teams based on their coefficient ranking.

Sources have told Football Insider Chelsea could, therefore, earn around £20.48million from winning the Conference League this season before any extra commercial matchday revenue is included.
That is more than West Ham generated from the competition after they earned £17.25million in prize money following their final success over Fiorentina in 2023.
