League Two postponement latest amid new weather warnings: Huge fixture at risk

Several League Two fixtures are at risk of postponement on Tuesday after the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for rain and snow across the UK.

League Two has seen numerous games postponed over the last month, with the UK being hit by Storm Goretti and ongoing poor conditions.

The last two rounds of fixtures have been kind to the fourth-tier, with no games called off, but four matches did succumb to the weather in the two weeks prior to that.

Tuesday sees all 24 sides face off in a vital round of fixtures that could see Bromley extend their lead at the top of the table, while Newport County are aiming for a successive win to move out of the bottom two.

Both clubs have had contrasting fortunes so far this term, but could each be in the same boat and see their respective games postponed this week after a new warning was issued.

Met Office issues yellow and amber weather warnings across the UK

The Met Office have reacted to the latest expected weather conditions to put yellow and amber warnings in place across south and south west England and south Wales, as well as some parts of northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Their yellow warning for rain, which runs from Monday to around midday on Tuesday, is expected to affect several fourth-tier games.

Storm Chandra is set to bring a heavy downpour, with some transport disruption, flooding in places and possible power cuts.

The rain warning covers table-toppers Bromley, who host Crewe Alexandra in a huge game, as well as relegation-threatened Newport, who take on Accrington Stanley, and Cheltenham, who host Gillingham.

League One games could also be affected by the weather

The latest warnings are not only expected to affect League Two, but also numerous League One games also at risk of postponement due to the conditions.

League leaders Cardiff see their area fall into the impact zone, as they host Barnsley in the Welsh capital with the aim of boosting their chances of immediate promotion back to the second tier.

Playoff chasers Plymouth Argyle and Mansfield Town are set to face off at Home Park on Tuesday, but the match could well be called off, with Storm Chandra bringing heavy rain to the area overnight and an amber warning in place around the local area.

Reading also falls into the area covered by a yellow warning for rain, so their home clash against Argyle’s rivals Exeter City may well also fall victim to the conditions.
