Sources: Portsmouth agree deal to sign Owen Moxon after breakthrough
Portsmouth have agreed a deal to sign Carlisle United midfielder Owen Moxon, sources have told Football Insider.
The 26-year-old has been a target for several clubs during this month’s transfer window but the League One leaders are now set to win the race for his signature.
Portsmouth now have an agreement in place following a breakthrough in talks and are set to complete the deal before Thursday night’s deadline.
Moxon turned down a new deal at Carlisle and they have reluctantly agreed to sell him.
The midfielder’s current contract runs at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, and Cumbrians boss Paul Simpson confirmed he was handed “probably the best offer I’ve ever made as Carlisle manager.”
But Moxon is set to join the promotion push at Fratton Park as competition from the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Peterborough United and Derby County heats up.
The 26-year-old has made 28 appearances across all competitions for Carlisle in the 2023-24 campaign so far, notching three goals and three assists.
He joined the Cumbrians in 2022 and has notched nine goals and 20 assists in 82 games at the club, helping them to promotion from League Two last term.
Moxon came through the club’s academy before being released in 2014 and heading to Queen of the South, Gretna 2008 and Annan Athletic.

Portsmouth sit three points clear of Bolton at the top of League One but have played three more games than the Trotters.
Pompey could drop outside the automatic promotion places if their closest rivals win their games in hand.
