Stephen Robinson is not set to win over any fans soon at Aberdeen after he was appointed their new manager this week.

The Scottish Premiership club were in crisis this week after their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

As a result, the board quickly brought in Robinson from St Mirren in the hopes of ending their terrible run of form.

However, the appointment of Robinson at Aberdeen is hugely unpopular among the fanbase, and now, the manager has seemingly compared himself to Jurgen Klopp.

Stephen Robinson: Fans would complain if Jurgen Klopp were appointed

While Robinson may go down as St Mirren’s best-ever manager, the end of his reign was poor.

After their Premier Sports Cup victory, the club massively declined, and he departed with the Buddies third from bottom after a horrific run of form.

As a result, many Aberdeen supporters struggled to see him as their saviour as they look to pull away from the relegation zone.

However, when asked about the negative fan reactions to the appointment, Robinson has not helped himself.

He said: “Listen, if Jurgen Klopp was appointed, there’d be somebody not happy. So I can deal with that.

“I am very, very confident in my own ability and the staff that I’ve brought along with me, and I’m also confident when I look around at this football club, there’s a real willingness for everyone to be brought together and go in one direction. I aim to do that.”

This is frankly a ridiculous statement, and one that will do little to win over the support of many Aberdeen fans.

The comparison to a potential Klopp appointment comes across as arrogant, especially for a manager who has just departed a side fighting a relegation battle.

As a result, Robinson may now have even more fans on his back, and if results do not go his way quickly, this appointment could easily end in a disaster.

Could Aberdeen be relegated this season?

Aberdeen hold a proud record of never being relegated from the Scottish Premiership. However, this season could really put their long reign in the top-flight to the test.

Going into the final nine matches, the Dons sit nine points above the relegation playoff zone.

Pre-split, they face a terrible run of matches, with St Mirren being the only side in the bottom six.

With this being away, and Robinson’s old club, it could prove to be a tough ask to get a victory.

In recent years, you have needed around 37 points to avoid finishing 11^th in the table, a total the Dons are only eight off. Therefore, as long as Robinson can win three of Aberdeen’s nine remaining matches, they could be safe.
