‘Arsenal divisions emerge over Noni Madueke signing from Chelsea’

Arsenal’s hierarchy are not all in agreement about signing Noni Madueke despite the Gunners’ interest in the Chelsea winger.

Madueke enjoyed a decent season for Chelsea in 2024/25, as he registered 11 goals and five assists in 44 appearances, while playing a key part in their Conference League triumph.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer, though, and his future at Stamford Bridge looks uncertain as Chelsea close in on signing Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund.

Former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider back in April that Chelsea were set to accept offers for Madueke this summer, amid interest from both Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Arsenal are also believed to be interested in a move for the 23-year-old [Fabrizio Romano], but it seems that a deal will not be straightforward due to certain views on his capture from within the club.

Madueke could leave Chelsea this summer

Madueke swoop is dividing Arsenal chiefs

Former scout Brown recently told Football Insider that Newcastle United are considering a move for Madueke, after Football Insider previously revealed that Enzo Maresca has concerns about Madueke’s attitude in the dressing room.

Arsenal are clearly needing to act fast if they wish to snap the England international up from their capital rivals, but BBC Sport have recently reported that a move for the 23-year-old does not have “universal backing” by those in power at the club.

They state that Madueke is a player that Arsenal have considered due to his versatility of being able to play on either wing, but any deal now seems unlikely given that Emirates Stadium chiefs are seemingly in disagreement about him being a good signing or not.

Arsenal need to find common ground with recruitment or risk another season of no trophies

Football Insider verdict

This is not even the first time this summer that those at the Emirates Stadium have been divided over a transfer, with their pursuit of Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres also currently causing a split between those in power at Arsenal.

It seems as if they are struggling to come to a unified decision on a number of targets, but that has to end soon as they look to close the gap between them and Liverpool, while also fending off strong competition from Man City, who could be back to their best next term after extensive summer recruitment.

Madueke is a good Premier League winger, but whether he himself would be happy to join Arsenal to be a back-up to Bukayo Saka on the right-wing is currently unclear.

So far this summer, Arsenal have signed Kepa from Chelsea and look to be closing in on deals to sign Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but that alone will not be enough.

The Gunners must soon find common ground at board level regarding their summer recruitment, or they risk being underprepared and already on the back foot when the new campaign begins next month.
