‘Arsenal to replace Partey and Jorginho with no-brainer Kimmich deal’

Arsenal have been backed to bring in Bayern Munich ace Joshua Kimmich to to replace midfield duo Jorginho and Thomas Partey by Michael Dawson.

The former England international did however suggest that the Gunners may need to focus more on signing a striker when the transfer window opens again in the summer.

With his contract due to expire at the end of this season, Partey has been tipped to leave Arsenal in the summer.

Jorginho too will see his deal expire when the campaign concludes which could see him depart the Emirates Stadium as well.

Now Dawson has touted Arsenal to make one particular signing in order to help provide cover in the centre of the park for those anticipated exits.

Arsenal backed to sign Joshua Kimmich to replace departing duo

According to reports the Gunners are now looking into a move for Kimmich with the midfielder out of contract at Bayern Munich in the summer, and claims that talks over a new deal have been called off.

Dawson now believes that the German international would be a smart signing for Arsenal if they are to see Jorginho and Partey depart before the start of the new campaign.

Mikel Arteta‘s side though have been badly hampered by a lack of attacking options in recent weeks after Kai Havertz was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Having missed out on the signing of Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins in January as well, Dawson does believe that Arsenal can ill-afford to overlook a striker signing in the summer, even if they sign Kimmich.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, the ex-Tottenham centre-back was asked about whether the Bayern Munich man would be the answer to what is needed at the Emirates Stadium.

In response to that question, Dawson said: “No definitely not. He’s a very, very good player. He’s done it for a long time in Germany at the age of 30. His contract’s coming to an end, it doesn’t look like it’s being renewed.

“The reason Arsenal are looking at this is you go, ‘is Jorginho gonna go? Is Thomas Partey gonna go?’ So then you go ‘we need to replace them’, and if he’s a free agent you get the experience, the quality he possesses, and you think ‘well it’s a no-brainer on that front’.

“But I just think they need a striker, I’ve said it for long enough now. Any team needs a striker, I don’t care who you are. Manchester City won the Premier League with no striker, that was a one-off…

“That’s where Arsenal need to prioritise. But Kimmich, I can see why they would go, of course, the experience if those two players do leave Arsenal you bring in one that’s tried and trusted, no-brainer.”

Football Insider Verdict

There is no getting away from the fact that Arsenal do need to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

But if Jorginho and Partey do leave the Emirates in the summer, that is going to leave Arteta short on options in the centre of the park.

As a result, if they were to sign a striker but not bring in a midfielder in the event of those departures, they would simply be solving one problem only to create another.

Bringing in Kimmich could therefore be a smart move given he has the experience of winning the trophies that the Gunners themselves desperately want.

With his contract expiring he could also be available on a free transfer that would help in terms of leaving funds free for other signings.

A move for Kimmich therefore looks as though it would indeed be a sensible move for Arsenal to make.
