‘Aston Villa have landed £100m windfall’ – Stefan Borson

Aston Villa have enjoyed another strong campaign as they find themselves firmly in the race for a Champions League place again this season.

Unai Emery’s side comprehensively swept Newcastle United aside on Saturday (19 April), recording a 4-1 victory at Villa Park.

They are now level on points with fifth-place Nottingham Forest, with five Champions League spots on offer to top-flight clubs this season.

The West Midlands giants were knocked out of the Champions League earlier this week after suffering a 5-4 defeat against PSG on aggregate.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Villa have likely banked around £100million from the Champions League once the prize money and matchday revenue are included.

The Premier League side posted a club-record revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover increased from £217.7million in 2022-23 to £275.7million, while their losses fell from £119.6million to £85.4million.

Villa’s revenue could reach £370million this season following their impressive run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Premier League clubs facing ‘big worry’ after Aston Villa twist

Borson insisted it will be a “big worry” for the top-six Premier League clubs if Villa qualify for the Champions League again this season.

He told Football Insider: “They have earned about £100million all in.

“By the time you put in additional matchday and prize money, it’s a massively successful and important season for them.

“They missed out on essentially three more matches and another route to the Champions League, but it’s an amazing season for them, whatever happens.

“They look very well placed.

“If they can get that Champions League place for a second consecutive season, then the momentum is really with them.

“I think it’s a big worry for the other big six.”

Liverpool turn attention to Aston Villa star

Football Insider revealed on 18 April Liverpool have turned their attention towards Ollie Watkins after his minutes have reduced at Villa.

Marcus Rashford‘s future is key to Watkins potentially pushing for a summer move away from Villa Park.

It is believed the door could open for the long-serving Villa striker to depart should they sign Rashford on a permanent basis from Manchester United this summer.

Watkins has registered 16 goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances this season, while Rashford has three goals and six assists in 16 outings to his name since joining on loan in January.
