‘Brentford target two key positions as Antoni Milambo deal beckons’

Brentford are set to make their first signing under manager Keith Andrews as they target two more key positions this transfer window.

The Bees appointed Andrews this week as the former set-piece coach stepped into the managerial hot seat.

That was after Thomas Frank left the West London club after seven years, managing to stabilise them as a Premier League club after winning promotion from the Championship in 2021.

Andrews already has plenty of work to do at the Gtech Community Stadium, with top goal scorer Bryan Mbuemo linked with a move to Manchester United and midfielder Christian Norgaard on the verge of moving to Arsenal.

Andrews quick to start transfer business

The Irishman is keen to move quickly to bring in replacements for both players and already the Bees could have their Norgaard replacement.

According to The Standard, Brentford are in advanced talks to make Feyenoord midfielder Antoni Milambo their first signing under Andrews, who they have been negotiating with since April.

The 20-year-old would join from Dutch club Feyenoord where he progressed through their academy to become a first team player.

He appeared 43 times for Feyenoord last season including in all nine of their Champions League fixtures, where he scored three goals.

Bees sticking to their principles

Football Insider verdict

The appointment of Andrews is a risk from Brentford, but the club look like they are keen to support him in the transfer market.

Smart recruitment will again be pivotal for the Bees and the signing of Milambo looks to be a good one.

Milambo will not be a direct Norgaard replacement, the Dutchman is a more attacking threat and less physical presence in the middle of the park.

However, with Mbuemo likely to be departing soon, Milambo’s creativity and goal scoring nature could help replace some of the attributes the striker brought up-front.

Andrews will still need to replace Mbuemo, but Yoane Wissa did score 19 Premier League goals last season, and the 28-year-old will again need to produce if Brentord are to continue looking up the table.

Bringing in a new signing, just days after Andrew’s announcement as boss received mixed reviews, will steal some of the limelight and perhaps supporters will be more inclined to back their new manager.
