Dele Alli sends Amadou Onana message after Everton reunion – ‘look who I found’

Dele Alli met up with one of his former Everton team-mates after his departure from Goodison Park last season.

Dele‘s turbulent spell on Merseyside finally came to an end in January when he completed a move to Como on a free transfer, after Everton released the 29-year-old at the end of is contract last summer.

The former England playmaker made just 13 appearances across three seasons with the Toffees and picked up a hip injury while on loan at Besiktas in April 2023 which proved to be his last for either club.

Sent off on his Como debut in March, Dele hasn’t appeared since for Cesc Fabregas’ side, but remains under contract until the summer of 2026 as he looks to finally get his top-level career back on track.

Onana spotted as ex-Everton players reunite

Although Dele’s contract at Goodison Park expired last summer and he was released by Everton, then-manager Sean Dyche allowed the midfielder to train at Finch Farm in order to maintain his fitness levels.

Everton were unable to keep hold of Onana, however, as their testing financial position resulted in the Belgian’s £50million sale to Aston Villa in a move which helped the Toffees to stave off a PSR breach.

The two ex-Everton midfielders were reunited at the L.V.M. Men’s SS26 fashion event in Paris on Tuesday though, and another former Toffee was also in attendance in the form of Fulham winger Alex Iwobi.

Prior to the event itself, Dele posted an image of Onana on his Instagram story (24 June), and said: “Look who I found in the gym”, accompanied by a ‘laughing’ emoji.

Everton must avoid transfer mistakes after Dele debacle

Football Insider Verdict

Dele’s off-field issues are well-documented and his on-field impact was already on the decline before his move to Everton, when Frank Lampard signed him on Deadline Day of the January 2022 transfer window.

Everton will look to avoid such desperate scrambles in this summer’s window as David Moyes prepares for a squad overhaul with £70million to spend ahead of the Toffees’ move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Carlos Alcaraz’s permanent signing has already been confirmed as Everton prepare to release a number of out-of-contract stars, and Moyes will be in no mood to sign high-earning, under-performing players such as Dele this summer.
