‘I fully expect Gibbs-White to complete move’ after Tottenham medical reveal

Tottenham are expected to reach an agreement with Nottingham Forest in their attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White despite delays.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 25-year-old’s future after Forest threatened Spurs with legal action.

The attacking midfielder was originally set to undergo a medical at Spurs’ training ground last week after agreeing to the move, before Forest put the breaks on.

Forest accused Tottenham of making an illegal approach to Gibbs-White, having never given permission for the talks, and threatened to take legal action as a result.

As far as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are concerned, that deal is now off, but there is a growing feeling that the current protests are only delaying the inevitable.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 15 July that Gibbs-White is very likely to join Tottenham when the dust settles and a new agreement can be found.

Tottenham likely to reach agreement to sign Morgan Gibbs-White

Football Insider understood that Man City had agreed terms for Gibbs-White’s signature, before it became apparent that Spurs had moved ahead in the race for the transfer.

There has been no shortage of interest in the England international, who has been widely expected to leave Forest this summer despite their desperate attempts to hold on.

O’Rourke described the deal as “messy” for all parties, but explained that he “fully expects” an agreement to be reached before the end of the window.

“I fully expect Morgan Gibbs-White to make the move to Tottenham,” he told Football Insider.

“If the Isak and Ekitike situations are complicated, this Gibbs-White one is messy.

“Spurs had gone and held talks with Gibbs-White, ready to activate that £60million release clause, and the player was ready to go and sign for Tottenham.

“He was due to take a medical last week, it all happened that quickly.

“Then Forest obviously put these hurdles up to halt the deal.

“Forest are obviously trying to delay things, but I fully expect the move to go through at some point.

“When that actually happens, we don’t know.

“I expect that will happen once an agreement is made between Forest and Tottenham to stop these protests going any further.”

Harvey Elliott update emerges as Spurs join race

While the drama surrounding Gibbs-White’s future looks set to continue at Spurs, they have also set their sights on another English attacking midfielder.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 15 July that Tottenham want to sign Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott and have joined the race for his signature.

However, they will face competition from the likes of Newcastle, Brighton, Fulham, and a number of Bundesliga clubs in their pursuit.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in March that Elliott is unhappy with his role at Liverpool and is keen to leave in search of more regular first-team football.
