The confirmation has come just in time for the new owners to both find a new manager and overhaul a squad that finished 17 points behind SPFL champions and rivals Celtic.

Andrew Cavenagh, Paraag Marathe pen letter to Rangers fans

Following confirmation of their takeover, new owners Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe penned an open letter to Rangers fans on Instagram, which read: “Dear Rangers Supporters,

“We are proud to be entering a new chapter for this extraordinary club. This moment is the result of months of thoughtful discussions with club leadership and our shared confidence in Rangers’ success going forward.

“To that end we’d like to tell you a bit about our thinking.

“Simply put – our goal is to win trophies in Scotland and be able to compete at a high level in Europe, while laying a foundation of financial sustainability for the future.

“As our first step, we are investing fresh capital into Rangers, which will be strategically deployed on and off the pitch. While we recognise the importance of resources, we believe that thoughtful, disciplined investment, guided by a clear strategy, is the path to enduring success.

“Every decision, whether sporting or business, will be made with the club’s long-term success and sustainability in mind.”

The letter then goes on to outline the prioritisation of finding a new manager, “reconstituting” the board to “bring in a few new voices and skill sets” whilst also respecting and honouring the traditions of the club.

The post was liked by several Rangers players, most notably Butland, who are all undoubtedly keen to see what the new owners can bring to the club.

Football Insider Verdict

After a strong first season in Scotland, it all fell apart for Butland in his second term with Rangers.

The English shot-stopper seemed to lose confidence and made several high-profile errors, which ultimately culminated in him being dropped by Barry Ferguson.

Liam Kelly replaced the former Stoke man, impressing during his time between the sticks.

Despite losing in the second leg, the Scottish shot-stopper’s heroics in the first leg against Athletic Club helped the Bears to an improbable 0-0 draw.

Whilst Butland is the higher-profile of the two, the new Rangers hierarchy may consider cashing in on the 32-year-old if given the chance this summer.
