Jack Grealish shows ‘telling’ giveaway of Man City upset
Jack Grealish looks unhappy with his situation at Man City after a “telling” giveaway from what he did against PSG, Joleon Lescott has suggested.
With the Premier League champions falling well below-par on multiple fronts this season, it has been a challenging period for the winger in particular.
The England international has struggled for opportunities in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI, and didn’t score a single goal for the club in the calendar year of 2024.
Grealish has already found the net for Man City at the start of 2025, including just moments after coming off the bench to put his side 1-0 up against PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday (22 January), before a major collapse to lose 4-2.
But despite that, Lescott is seemingly unconvinced that Grealish is now happy with his situation at the Etihad Stadium based on his expression while knee sliding after the strike.
Speaking on TNT Sports while looking at the attacker’s goal and celebration in that clash with PSG, the former Man City and England defender said:
“A well-needed goal for Jack personally, again showed great character to get in the box, recognised what the situation brings.
“But this is a telling moment for me. Someone that loves to play football, and to not have scored for such a long time and not to smile when he scored? It’s a telling factor for me.”
Jack Grealish Man City future questions to continue after PSG
Football Insider Verdict
There have already been some suggestions that Grealish could soon leave the Etihad, and this will do little to quieten that speculation.
It looked to be a hugely significant goal he scored for Man City against PSG, especially for him after all his recent struggles.
So to not celebrate in a more emotional way may suggest he is no longer entirely happy with his situation, which may indicate he is open to a change of scenery.
Of course, despite racing into a 2-0 lead early in the second half, Guardiola’s side went on to lose this game 4-2 to leave their place in the Champions League hanging in the balance.
That too is unlikely to do much to help the mood of Grealish and other within the Man City camp, ahead of a clash with Chelsea on Saturday (25 January).
With that then followed by a must-win Champions League tie with Club Brugge, how involved in those games Grealish is may be an indicator as to what the future holds for him with the club.
