Joe Rothwell sends Leeds message after dramatic late win vs Sunderland

Joe Rothwell has sent Leeds United fans a message after his personal impact in their dramatic comeback against Sunderland on Monday (17 February).

The Yorkshire giants came from behind to defeat Sunderland 2-1 at Elland Road courtesy of a Pascal Struijk brace, with his fellow substitute Rothwell assisting both goals.

It took a lot of patience from Daniel Farke’s side to secure the three points, with the match winner being scored in the 95th minute.

Leeds returned to the top of the Championship and strengthened their Premier League promotion hopes in the process.

The Whites overtook Sheffield United while also creating a 10-point gap over Sunderland, who currently sit in fourth.

Leeds will be back in action on Monday (24 February) in a crucial top-of-the-table clash against the Blades.

Leeds close in on Premier League return

After narrowly missing out on promotion last season via a defeat in the Play-Off final, Leeds are once again looking to make a return to the English top flight.

The Yorkshire giants have dominated the Championship so far as they have only lost three of their 33 fixtures up until this point.

Farke’s men also boast the best goalscoring record with 68 and the second-best defensive record in the Championship.
