Keown: Tottenham star is developing into one of the best in Europe (not Alli or Kane)
By Harvey Byrne
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Tottenham star Kyle Walker is developing into one of the best right-backs in Europe.
The Spurs team boasts a number of high quality players as they sit in second place in the Premier League table.
Attackers Dele Alli and Harry Kane often receive the plaudits and are regularly hailed among the best players.
However, Keown believes Tottenham have another star who is close to the best in the world in full-back Walker, who has been a shining light for Spurs this season.
“Kyle Walker and Ryan Betrand will keep their places as wing backs,” wrote Keown in his Daily Mail column in Friday’s print edition (page 86).
“Walker is developing into one of the best players in Europe in his position.”
Walker, 26, has been a big hit in north London since his move from Sheffield United in the summer of 2009, where he joined with teammate Kyle Naughton for a combined £9million fee.
The rapid full-back has starred in 222 appearances for the club, bringing a return of four goals and 21 assists.
He has adapted to a new wing-back role in Mauricio Pochettino’s formation with relative ease this season and has returned six assists from 32 encounters in all competitions.
At his age and with four years still remaining on his contract, Tottenham fans will be hoping to see a lot more from their star player in the future.
In other Tottenham news, Danny Higginbotham believes this will be Spurs’ biggest problem next season.
