Kobbie Mainoo tipped to quit Man United and link up with ex-teammate at new club
Kobbie Mainoo has been tipped to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window in search of more game time.
Mainoo is out of favour under Ruben Amorim and hasn’t started a single Premier League game so far this season.
In fact, the midfielder has only featured for 138 minutes in the league, with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes being preferred in the centre of the park.
The 20-year-old was one of Man United’s most exciting young prospects less than 12 months ago, but now his time at Old Trafford could be over.

Kobbie Mainoo set for an overseas move after Man United exit
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Mainoo is definitely going to leave in January, with a move overseas likely.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the England international should join up with Scott McTominay at Napoli, in an attempt to revitalise his career.
McTominay left Man United back in the summer of 2024, becoming an instant success in Naples, winning the Serie A title and Player of the Season in his first campaign at the club.
Wyness added that Mainoo could be suited to Italian or Spanish football.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Mainoo is definitely going to leave. He’ll be off, there’s no doubt about it.
“I think the plans are that he’s definitely one of the bomb squad at the moment, and if they’re going to remove, replenish the midfield, he doesn’t seem to be in the plans.
“Now I think Napoli is where he should go. He could join up with McTominay. I think that would be the one for him.
“I think he should have a time overseas. He’s very well suited to Italy or Spain, and I expect that sort of move for Mainoo.
“But I don’t see him staying at United, no, which is weird, because he was the great hope at one time, and now here we are with Mainoo having to leave.”
Kobbie Mainoo’s price tag revealed ahead of Man United exit
Man United could reportedly still get around £40million for Mainoo if they do decide to sell him.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the midfielder’s value is unlikely to fall despite his lack of opportunities this season.
Mainoo has featured 80 times for Man United since making his first-team debut in January 2023, registering seven goals and three assists along the way.
