‘Leicester could escape points deduction after Van Nistelrooy sack decision’
Leicester City could escape another points deduction blow following their handling of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s sacking.
Leicester endured a miserable season back in the Premier League after suffering an immediate relegation back down to the Championship.
Steve Cooper was appointed as Enzo Maresca’s replacement last summer, but he was sacked in November despite the club still sitting outside the relegation zone.
Van Nistelrooy was swiftly drafted in as his successor and got off to a strong start after beating West Ham in his opening game at the King Power Stadium.
However, a run of just one win in the next 20 Premier League matches saw Leicester drop into the relegation zone, eventually finishing the campaign in 18th place and 13 points from safety.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 20 May Leicester had decided to sack Van Nistelrooy following their relegation.
Leicester make Van Nistelrooy sack decision
Leicester officially confirmed on Friday (27 June) Van Nistelrooy’s departure following weeks of speculation around his position.
Sky Sports reported on Friday the Foxes were unable to sack the Dutch manager earlier because it would have affected their profit and sustainability (PSR) position, with their financial year ending on 30 June.
Football Insider revealed on 28 May Leicester are likely to be close to a PSR breach for the latest campaign.
Although pushing the decision to sack Van Nistelrooy back into the new accounting period could just be a move to reduce their losses, it may be a deciding factor in helping the club avoid another spending breach.
The 48-year-old was under contract until 2027, meaning he will be in line for a significant compensation package.

Leicester to land points deduction after new twist
Leicester are still expected to receive a points deduction next season following their previous financial issues.
The Foxes were initially charged in March 2024 with a spending breach after reporting losses of £90million for 2022-23, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
However, it has been confirmed they will not face any punishment for their 2022-23 breach after exploiting a loophole in the rules.
Leicester have now been charged with an alleged breach of the EFL’s financial rules for 2023-24 when they secured promotion back to the Premier League.
The Foxes have been referred to an independent commission, leaving them facing a potential points deduction following their relegation to the Championship.
Leicester’s turnover fell from £177million in 2022-23 to £105million in 2023-24, while their losses dropped from £90million to £19million across the same period.
