‘Levy canvassed Tottenham players over Ange Postecoglou sack’
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is thought likely to have asked his senior players if he should sack Ange Postecoglou this summer.
Spurs’ season ended on a high note last month, as they got their hands on silverware for the first time in 17 years with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Their poor Premier League exploits made that success even sweeter, after Postecoglou oversaw a nightmare league campaign that saw them finish 17th with 22 defeats to their name.
Rumours around the Australian manager’s future have been widespread, but Football Insider recently revealed that chairman Levy is set to relieve him of his duties, before reporting that Brentford boss Thomas Frank is in pole position to land the role.
Spurs are yet to communicate any official decision, but despite finally landing a trophy it appears Postecoglou is set to lose his job soon with a huge summer window on the horizon for the North London outfit.

Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy argue over Ange Postecoglou situation after Pedro Porro comments
Postecoglou has retained the backing of his players in a public setting, with Spanish international right-back Pedro Porro stating that “[Postecoglou] continuing would be good for the dressing room,” in an interview with The Guardian on Tuesday (3 June).
His comments sparked a fierce debate live on talkSPORT on Wednesday (4 June), as host Jim White asked pundit Danny Murphy if he believed that the players’ views had been canvassed about Postecoglou staying on or being sacked, and he answered: “I would hope so. I think that it would be stupid not to. It doesn’t mean you listen.”
Simon Jordan disagreed with the sentiment, arguing: “That’s so massively undermining. It’s hugely undermining. If you’re the owner of the football club and you are going to his employees to ask what they think of him, you are undermining by definition.”
The former Crystal Palace owner continued, adding: “So he goes to the players [and says] ‘I like Ange, I’m really behind him,’ what do you think the players are going to do then? If you go to the players to canvass their opinion, I am fascinated to see how you think that works, because I can’t see a way that works.”
White soon added his views on the potential situation at hand, and agreed with Murphy’s opinion that asking senior players about the manager’s position was the right thing to do, and the ex-Liverpool midfielder strengthened his view by saying: “Daniel will have got some vibes.”
Spurs need to sack Postecoglou and hire Frank as soon as possible
Football Insider verdict
It may come as a surprise to many that Spurs are set to sack Postecoglou soon after he led them to a first major trophy in 17 years, but their decision now looks to have been made, and they are only delaying the inevitable by not confirming it officially.
Football Insider have revealed that club chiefs have been exploring alternatives to the Australian manager for months, including Brentford’s Frank, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.
Now that Frank is a leading contender for the top job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they need to get on with it and secure his services following Postecoglou’s dismissal.

The Bees boss is an experienced operator in the Premier League now, having led the West London outfit to promotion back in 2021, and he is surely set to be on the radar of numerous top clubs if Spurs do not jump at the chance to hire him soon.
His pragmatic style of play may not instantly win Lilywhites supporters over, but he is sure to help them stabilise in the Premier League, with much more chance of long-term success than if Postecoglou stays at the helm.
