‘Liverpool baffled by Luis Diaz situation’

Liverpool have apparently been left confused by the ongoing claims around the future of attacker Luis Diaz.

The Reds enjoyed an excellent season in 2024/25, in which they won the Premier League title in their first season with Arne Slot as manager.

During the season, Diaz was hailed by Liverpool fans after making some key contributions to their success in lifting the trophy.

Even so, there has still been some uncertainty about the future of the Colombian international at Anfield ahead of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool response to transfer claims emerges

In the lead up to the transfer window, there has been suggestions that Diaz could be sold if a “huge” offer is made amid interest from Barcelona.

Meanwhile, there have also been claims that clubs in Saudi Arabia are interested in the Liverpool attacker this summer.

However, it seems those at Anfield have no intention of letting the 28-year-old leave before the start of next season.

According to a new update from The Times, the Reds have been left “perplexed” by those claims of a potential exit for Diaz, indicating that they expect him to stay.

It is though also noted that Liverpool do not have any plans to open talks with the Colombia international over a new contract.

Diaz has two years remaining on his current deal at Anfield, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Luis Diaz stance is a risk

Football Insider Verdict

With the 28-year-old having played an important role for Slot’s side this season, it makes sense that the club seemingly do not intend to let him go this summer.

It appears evident that Diaz can still make a contribution for the club as they look to secure even more silverware in the coming campaign, so you can understand why they would find talk of an exit strange.

If that is the case though, then the Reds may be taking something of a risk by not planning talks over a new contract for the attacker.

Not moving over new deals sooner led to some nervy moments around the futures of Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk this season, and it did see them lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.

Liverpool will surely want to avoid a repeat of such a situation emerging again with the likes of Diaz in the future, since that could also prove costly.

As a result, the future of the Colombian international will still have to be something they keep in mind in the not too distant future.
