Marcus Rashford responds to Lamine Yamal as Barcelona plot Man United approach

Man United outcast Marcus Rashford has reacted to Lamine Yamal on social media amid reports of Barcelona’s interest in securing his services this summer.

Rashford is set to leave United once again ahead of next season, after a fallout with boss Ruben Amorim meant he departed the club for the first time in his career to join Aston Villa on loan in the recent January window.

He impressed in his short stint at Villa Park with four goals and six assists in 17 appearances in all competitions, and could now be set to move abroad with Barcelona leading the chase for Rashford’s signature right now.

Former United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 7 July that Rashford looks increasingly likely to move to the Catalan giants on loan this summer, with the forward preferring said switch over any other, while Barcelona recently made the Red Devils outcast their main transfer target amid similar interest from Juventus.

Lamine Yamal shares off-season Instagram update

Barcelona’s recent return to dominance in La Liga has been fronted by one of the world’s best players in 17-year-old Yamal, who helped fire them to a league and cup double last season after he had won the 2024 European Championships with Spain.

Rashford’s potential move to the Catalan giants would see him link up with Yamal in attack, and the 27-year-old moved to fuel rumours of a possible Barca switch by liking the youngster’s recent social media update.

Yamal took to Instagram on Friday (11 July) to share some posts of his summer escapades with the caption: “enjoy what you dream of,” and notable players such as previous Barca target Nico Williams, Jules Kounde, Memphis Depay and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also liked his message alongside Rashford.

Football Insider verdict

The last few years of Rashford’s career have certainly not gone to plan, but his spell at Villa saw him back playing near his best at times in a much more settled and less pressure-driven environment compared to that of United.

There looks to be no way back for him at Old Trafford, but Football Insider revealed on 9 July that Rashford’s exit saga could drag into the latter stages of the window, while The Athletic have also reported that he is open to leaving as part of a swap deal if suitable opportunities arise.

The 27-year-old is also believed to favour a move to a team that is competing for titles, so Barca would be a seemingly perfect fit, and he needs a stellar season to thrust himself back into Thomas Tuchel’s England plans ahead of next year’s World Cup.

He would also undoubtedly benefit from a change of scenery and culture, and the chance to compete for the top prizes alongside the best players is also something that he has not had in a long time, if ever, at Old Trafford, so it is no wonder that he is interacting with Yamal with hope of the move materialising soon.
