Matheus Cunha’s updated stance on joining Man United if they don’t reach Champions League

Matheus Cunha has given Man United encouragement he will join even without Champions League qualification, sources have told Football Insider.

United face an all-or-nothing tilt at the Europa League title before the end of the 2024-25 campaign but sources say failure to win the trophy will not derail their move for the Wolves star.

Sources say the Red Devils are winning the race for the 25-year-old and there is a willingness from all parties to agree a summer deal.

Man United must find a formula to pay Cunha’s £62.5million release clause – which was inserted after he signed a new contract at Wolves earlier this year.

Europa League failure won’t derail Man United’s Cunha move

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and more Premier League sides have also been linked with the Brazil international but the forward looks set to make the move to Old Trafford.

That is despite Ruben Amorim’s side languishing down in 14th this term – with winning the Europa League now their only route to European football for next season.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (28 April) that Man United will play Cunha in the number ten role if they seal a deal for the Wolves star.

He will add much-needed goal threat at Old Trafford with striker duo Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund struggling.

The forward has hit 17 goals and notched six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions this term.

Casemiro exit latest after Amorim U-turn

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (28 April) that Casemiro is still likely to exit Man United this summer despite Amorim changing his mind on the veteran midfielder.

The 33-year-old has been one of United’s better performers in recent weeks and months after being sidelined in Amorim’s early tenure at Old Trafford.

However, sources say United will have to consider parting with the Brazil international if a good offer arrives for his services.
