O’Rourke names three clubs more likely to sign Liam Delap than Man City

Man City are not the favourites to sign in-demand Ipswich striker Liam Delap this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that he’s not sure if City “would pursue it now.”

The Premier League giants recently tied Erling Haaland down to a long-term contract until 2034, while they also signed Omar Marmoush in the January transfer window to provide more options to Pep Guardiola.

Delap opted to follow a similar path to Cole Palmer by leaving City in a bid for more regular playing time, despite coming through their academy system.

The 22-year-old has kicked on at Ipswich and has been one of the most impressive strikers in the Premier League this season, despite the difficulties that the Tractor Boys have dealt with.

Ipswich currently sit 18th in the Premier League table and are six points adrift of safety, putting them in a dangerously precarious situation when it comes to remaining in the top flight.

However, Football Insider revealed that Delap is “desperate” to stay in the Premier League next season regardless of what happens to Ipswich, which could lead to him moving on.

Liam Delap is a wanted man

Whether City look to re-sign Delap remains to be seen, but the young Englishman will have no shortage of clubs knocking on his door during the summer transfer window.

Football Insider revealed that Delap is high on Eddie Howe’s list of targets for Newcastle in the summer as they look to replace Callum Wilson for next season.

However, Chelsea and Man United are also looking at Delap as a possible option to strengthen their attacking options moving forward.

Man City are looking to strengthen in midfield

City might not sign Delap, but they are expected to remain active in the transfer window just as they were during the January market.

Guardiola has identified central midfield as an area that he wants to strengthen after spending the entire season without Rodri due to injury.

Football Insider revealed they are set to enter a race with Tottenham in a bid to sign Crystal Palace and England star Adam Wharton.
