Pat Frost furious with ‘ridiculous’ West Brom over Jayson Molumby development

West Brom have been blasted for their actions following Jayson Molumby’s sending off in the 2-1 defeat to Bristol City.

Tony Mowbray‘s side are on a barren run of just one win in their last six matches, a form which has seen the Baggies drop outside of the Championship play-off spots with just five matches remaining.

They were just seconds from picking up a well-earned point on the road on Tuesday, 8 April, thanks to Alex Mowatt‘s equaliser at Ashton Gate, until Haydon Roberts’ winner in the sixth minute of added time.

With Molumby sent off just moments before, lashing out at Joe Williams in the middle of the park, that is likely to be the major turning point in the match that cost the Baggies two points on the road.

Despite the blatancy of the midfielder’s offence, the club officially launched an appeal against the sending-off, a decision which has been torn to shreds online after it was rejected.

Jayson Molumby facing suspension after failed West Brom appeal

Taking to X (11 April), England kitman and long-time ex-Albion man, Pat Frost, replied to a post about the appeal from Chris Lepkowski, writing: “Ridiculous decision to appeal, Chris. It does beg the question who sanctioned it.”

Molumby will now miss key league fixtures against Watford, Coventry City, and Derby County, possibly next featuring against Cardiff City as the Baggies attempt to finish in a top-six spot.

Tony Mowbray facing immense pressure at The Hawthorns

Football Insider verdict

West Brom supporters were almost giddy at Mowbray’s return to The Hawthorns in January, but with the team more likely to miss out on the play-offs now, some have already started to turn.

Daniel Farke is under similar pressure at Leeds United, but after a much-needed victory against Middlesbrough last time out, some of that pressure has subsided at Elland Road.

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United side look to be battling Burnley for automatic promotion, with Leeds now keeping their spot at the top of the table, but the Baggies will be worrying about their own race.

Now five points adrift of the play-off spots, the Midlands club are in serious danger of missing out on the chance to fight for promotion, much like they did last term, with West Brom clearly missing Carlos Corberan.

There is no telling what will happen this summer if the Baggies cannot make it to the Premier League, but after Molumby now missing for three matches, it is looking even less likely at The Hawthorns.
