Russell Martin reaches full agreement with Leicester City amid announcement news
Leicester City have now reached a full agreement with Russell Martin to become the club’s new manager, sources have told Football Insider.
The 39-year-old is finalising contracts at the King Power Stadium with the 2024-25 campaign reaching a conclusion.
Martin is expected to be announced as the successor for Ruud van Nistelrooy in the coming days as Leicester prepare to return to the Championship.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 20 May that Leicester have decided to sack Van Nistelrooy after their relegation from the Premier League this term.
Leicester set to make Martin announcement within days
Martin, who was sacked by also-relegated Southampton in December 2024, will be charged with trying to get the Foxes back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
He took charge at St Mary’s Stadium in 2023 and achieved promotion via the play-offs but won just one of 16 top-flight games before being replaced.
Games | 138 |
Wins | 60 |
Draws | 34 |
Losses | 44 |
Goals (For / Against) | 213 / 195 |
The former Scotland international is an experienced operator in the Championship, taking charge of 138 games with the Saints and Swansea – and winning 60.
Martin’s task at Leicester could be complicated by their tangle with the EFL over Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Football Insider revealed last week (21 May) that Leicester are likely to be deducted at least six points for their alleged breach of PSR for the 2023-24 campaign.

Leicester set sights on Schlupp return
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (20 May) that Leicester are eyeing a move to bring former star Jeffrey Schlupp back to the club.
Schlupp, who spent the second half of this season on loan at Celtic, is out of contract at Crystal Palace next month.
Leicester are planning to rebuild their squad following relegation from the Premier League and see the 32-year-old’s experience and versatility as a key addition to their squad.
