‘Sean Dyche to Leicester in doubt with Danny Rohl now emerging as lead candidate’

Leicester City have identified a new leading candidate for their managerial vacancy amid uncertainty about Sean Dyche join the Foxes.

The club have been looking for a new manager after deciding to sack Ruud van Nistelrooy after just five wins from 27 matches.

Van Nistelrooy’s poor record contributed significantly to the Foxes’ relegation back to the Championship after just one season back in the Premier League.

The Dutchman replaced Steve Cooper in November, when the club were one point above the relegation zone.

There return to the EFL could be met with a points deduction for breaking spending rules, hampering their chances of an immediate return to the top flight.

Rohl moves ahead of Dyche in Foxes managerial hunt

Former Everton manager Sean Dyche is currently available and the 54-year-old has previous pedigree in leading teams to the Premier League from the Championship.

Dyche led Burnley to the title and promotion in 2015/16 season.

However, with a possible points deduction incoming, The Daily Mail has reservations over whether Dyche would like to join Leicester in such a scenario.

“A proven Premier League operator, Dyche will drop into the Championship only if he is confident he can get out of it quickly,” The Daily Mail said.

“A significant points deduction is going to hurt Leicester’s chances of immediate promotion greatly. With that in mind, would Dyche really want to take a job with the landscape unclear?”

Sheffield Wednesday manager Rohl has therefore become a leading candidate.

The Daily Mail said: “If Rohl can settle his contract at Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester can avoid compensation, the German could be an ideal fit.”

“He is hugely admired by head of recruitment Martyn Glover, who saw him at close quarters at Southampton.”

Foxes face Rohl competition

Football Insider verdict

Leicester have identified two capable managers able to lead them back to the Premier League next season, but there hand may be forced over which one they choose if a points deduction is applied.

Rohl has worked under tough circumstances for nearly two years at Wednesday, so coming into a dysfunctional club with financial issues won’t faze the German.

Whilst Rohl would relish the opportunity to take the next step in his career, Dyche would be moving down a level after most recently being manager at Everton.

Dyche could afford to hold out and wait for another Premier League opportunity, potentially when a manager at the wrong end of the table gets sacked next season.

Rohl is also the subject of interest from Brentford to join Keith Andrews’ coaching team, so the Foxes may face stiff competition for his services.

Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri may also have input on how Rohl can leave the club, with the pair currently in talks over the 36-year-old’s departure.
