Sources: Bournemouth make new plan to prevent Andoni Iraola joining Man United

Bournemouth remain hopeful of agreeing a contract extension with Andoni Iraola in an attempt to deter interest from Man United and Crystal Palace.

Talks have taken place with the 43-year-old, whose current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, although no agreement has been reached yet.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the Cherries are extremely reluctant to lose their manager any time soon.

Bournemouth beat Liverpool 3-2 last time out thanks to a dramatic late winner from Amine Adli, as they continue to make impressive progress under Iraola.

However, Iraola is on Man United’s managerial shortlist following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, and could look to tempt him into a switch to Old Trafford.

Bournemouth hope to keep Andoni Iraola

Football Insider revealed on 25 January that Crystal Palace have joined the race for Iraola and hope to attract him to Selhurst Park to replace Oliver Glasner.

While Iraola is not the only option on the shortlist at Crystal Palace, or Man United for that matter, he remains among the leading contenders for both.

Bournemouth, however, have no plans to lose their manager in the near future and hope to back him to continue their ambitious project.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Iraola again is a very impressive manager, and he’s done a great job at Bournemouth.

“Bournemouth are hoping they can try and convince him to sign a new deal after holding talks, but nothing has been agreed as yet.

“Palace are one of a number of clubs who are looking at his contract situation, knowing that he is a free agent in the summer and yeah, he could be a real good fit for Palace.

“He’s Premier League proven, a top young manager and plays attractive expansive football.

But there will be a lot of competition for his signature in the summer if he doesn’t agree a new deal at Bournemouth.

Man United eye ‘big-name’ manager who wants the job

Iraola is not the only manager being linked with the Man United role come the end of the season, as the club are targeting multiple big-name bosses.

Football Insider revealed on 24 January that Xavi is interested in the Man United role and would tick a lot of boxes after his time at Barcelona.

He led Barca to the 2022-23 La Liga title and made them a genuine force again by promoting youth players and a stricter rules system behind the scenes.

However, he is not currently considered to be among the leading contenders for the job, with the likes of Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann on their list.

Football Insider revealed on 11 January that Man United are lining up a “top-class” manager to become their next permanent boss and are drawing up a shortlist.
