‘Thomas Frank’s Brentford reunion plans crumble at Tottenham after Arsenal news’

Arsenal are about to deal a blow to new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank as he looks to reunite with members of his old Brentford squad in North London.

After seven years in charge of the Bees which saw him guide them to promotion to the Premier League and establish the club in the top-flight, the Dane bid a fond farewell to Brentford this summer.

That saw Frank move to Tottenham to replace Ange Postecoglou as manager, where he will take over a side that won the Europa League but finished 17th in the Premier League last season.

With such a big challenge on his hands, the new Spurs boss unsurprisingly appears keen to make changes to the squad he has inherited ahead of the new campaign.

Thomas Frank wants Brentford duo again

Following the 51-year-old’s change of clubs, it was reported that Frank wanted to bring Brentford attackers Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa with him to Tottenham.

The duo excelled under the Dane with the Bees last season, so signing the duo would have been a major boost for his new team.

Despite that connection between Frank and those players though, it appears that Man United are still leading the race to sign Mbeumo from Brentford this summer.

Meanwhile, other business elsewhere involving Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal, will make it even harder for Frank to reunite with Wissa.

Tottenham to be denied Yoane Wissa deal

With activity stepping up as clubs look to get deals done in preparation for the new campaign, various transfer are moving towards completion.

One of those looks set to see Arsenal sign of Brentford captain Christian Norgaard, as they aim to boost their midfield depth with Jorginho and Thomas Partey moving on.

That though, will be a problem for any hopes Tottenham have of signing Wissa this summer, given the Bees’ likely response to this situation.

With Frank already gone, and Mbeumo and Norgaard looking set to follow him out of the club, Brentford are going to want to retain some of their key figures to ensure they can still be competitive under new boss Keith Andrews.

As a result, they will surely not be making it easy for Spurs or any other club to sign Wissa given his own importance to the club.

With the money they have received from those exits, and Brentford are demanding over £60million for Mbeumo alone, there will be no huge pressure on them to sell Wissa as well from a financial perspective.

Beyond that, the DR Congo international still has a year remaining on his contract with the option for the club to extend that deal for a further year.

That too ensures they are not under pressure to sell in the current window, meaning they are in a strong position all-round to demand a major fee for Wissa at the very least.

All of that means even at this early stage of the window, Frank’s hopes of reuniting with some of his old Brentford stars at Tottenham, are already under severe threat, if not over.
